Where does the idea of the mother blessing come from?
Today's mother blessing is inspired by the Blessingway tradition of the Diné, also known as the Navajo.
The traditional Blessingway is a ceremonial practice of the Diné and has a deeper religious and cultural meaning.
What is offered today as a mother blessing is a modern form that takes up the idea of strengthening a woman in a special transition of her life, giving her good wishes and celebrating her in her circle.
For me, the expectant mum is at the centre: her story, her wishes, her people and whatever gives her strength on the way into motherhood.
